Role Summary

The FinOps Manager owns cloud cost visibility, optimization, and governance across our GCP and AWS environments that power our retail and ecommerce platforms. The role partners closely with Engineering, Product, Finance, and Operations to stop cost ballooning, align spend with business value, and embed cost accountability into day‐to‐day engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud cost visibility & reporting

  • Build and maintain single, trusted views of GCP and AWS spend by platform, product, environment, and team (tags/labels, accounts/projects, cost centres).
  • Produce regular dashboards and reports on usage, unit costs (e.g., cost per order, per visit, per API call), budget vs actuals, and trends for leadership and product teams.

Optimization & remediation

  • Analyze cloud usage to identify waste (idle resources, over‐provisioned instances, unused storage, data transfer inefficiencies) and high‐ROI optimization opportunities.
  • Drive concrete savings actions such as rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, autoscaling improvements, reserved instances/savings plans/committed use discounts, and decommissioning of unused services.

FinOps operating model & governance

  • Define and implement FinOps processes for budgeting, forecasting, anomaly detection, and showback/chargeback for all GCP and AWS workloads.
  • Establish and enforce tagging/labeling, account/project structure, and guardrails so that every resource is attributable to an owner, service, and environment.

Partnering with engineering & product

  • Work with platform and application teams to design cost‐efficient architectures for retail and ecommerce workloads (traffic peaks, seasonal sales, high‐volume data, analytics, and ML).
  • Embed cost awareness into development and release processes (pre‐launch cost reviews, cost SLOs, alerts, and cost in design/architecture decisions).

Budgeting, forecasting & business alignment

  • Collaborate with Finance to set and track cloud budgets, forecast spend scenarios, and support annual/quarterly planning for GCP and AWS.
  • Translate technical usage patterns into financial insights and recommendations for leadership, including ROI of new initiatives and trade‐offs between performance, resilience, and cost.

Tools, automation & continuous improvement

  • Select and manage cloud cost management tools (native and third‐party) to automate data collection, alerting, and reporting across GCP and AWS.
  • Continuously benchmark against industry best practices in FinOps and bring new ideas for savings, unit‐economics tracking, and process improvement.

Requirements

Experience & background

  • 5–8 years of experience in cloud infrastructure / platform engineering, finance, or FinOps, with at least 3 years focused on public cloud cost optimization.
  • Hands-on experience managing spend across both AWS and GCP in a multi‐account / multi‐project setup, ideally for high‐traffic retail or ecommerce platforms.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of core cloud services (compute, storage, networking, managed databases, Kubernetes, serverless) and their cost models on AWS and GCP.
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable cloud cost savings while maintaining required performance and availability.
  • Solid financial acumen: budgeting, forecasting, unit economics, and interpreting P&L/Cost‐center reports.
  • Ability to work cross‐functionally and influence engineering and product leaders without direct authority; strong communication skills for both technical and executive audiences.

Nice to have

  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS, GCP) and/or FinOps certification.
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau) and scripting/automation (e.g., Python, SQL, Terraform) for cost analysis and optimization.
